Early life and education

Mahendra Singh Dhoni was born on July 7, 1981, in Ranchi, Bihar (now Jharkhand), India. He is the youngest of three children of Pan Singh and Devaki Devi. His father was a pump operator in the Mechanical Engineering Corporation (MECON), a state-owned heavy engineering company, and his mother was a housewife.
